Sustainable Cuenca’s Soup Kitchen is currently serving lunch to 160 people daily, Tuesday through Saturday. Soup Kitchen guests can dine at the program for three weeks. This gives them time to get set up in Cuenca, find jobs, and places to live. Meals are prepared and served by volunteers and include soup, rice, a main dish, fruit and juice.
Sustainable Cuenca collects gently used clothes, bedding, kitchen wares and other items and places them in their store. Every Wednesday, the store is open to families who receive a $25 voucher to purchase articles they need.
Sustainable Cuenca also purchases diapers for Soup Kitchen families who need them. On Thursdays, every family with infants and toddlers receives a pack of diapers. This allows families to keep their children clean and changed and prevents health issues that come about when kids stay in dirty diapers.
Sustainable Cuenca also serves the Ecuadorian working poor through our Outreach Program. Volunteers go out with bag lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays and distribute them to needy individuals in the neighborhood around the Soup Kitchen.
